The device is intended for clearance viewing of different nature nanoscale objects (powder, microcrystals, biological objects, sections of cells, etc.). Nanoscaner is based on the principle of tomographic registration of information and does not contain a conventional optical elements (lenses, mirrors), which make him able to capture images in a wide wavelength range from terahertz and infrared radiation to ultraviolet and hard X-rays. Resolution of the device is 60 nm in the illuminating light wavelength of 200 nm, and the size of the scan area is 2 mm.

The closest functional analogs are optical scanning confocal microscopes made by Carl Zeiss, Olympus, Nicon Company. Other analogs are scanning and transmission electron microscopes made by Carl Zeiss, FOCUS, Hitachi.
